JPMorgan is not a traditional equity finance firm. Instead, it aims to ply the most sophisticated multi-strategy, multi-asset class hedge funds with portfolio financing, securities clearing and settlement, intermediation of both credit and interest rates OTC derivatives and spot, forward, swap, option and exotic options trades in foreign exchange and precious metals. It brings to these tasks long experience and proven expertise in OTC derivatives, a large balance sheet, and direct access to all major trading platforms and over 200 currency pairs. “Using their niche in fixed income to try to make inroads into the equity world,” writes a large client. “Long road ahead but doable.” That road will be shortened dramatically if the bank buys the Bank of America prime brokerage operation.
